I've spent a reasonable amount of time (okay maybe more than that) consuming Steampunk works. From fiction, to Jake Von Slatt's modern day mods, to RPGs, movies, and web sites. One thing I've never really achieved a sense for was the musical aspect of Steampunk. The retro 19th century is such an eclectic visual and literary aesthetic that I can understand would be difficult to capture as audio. However, now there is a commissioned "Steampunk" classical piece. Does it sound like Steampunk? I suppose from the standpoint of Victorianism it makes sense that Steampunk music deviates from the romantic classics popular in the 19th century.
Personally, I think I'm still more partial to Professor Elemental for my Steampunk music pick. It's just got more punk.
